Crystals for Libra: The Birthstone, the Stones, and the Real Geology
Libra runs from September 23 to October 22, an air sign ruled by Venus and symbolized by the scales. The stones tied to it lean soft and balanced, pinks and blues and stones that hold two colors at once. Libra's birthstone, the calendar version
Most of Libra falls in October, so its main birthstone is opal. Opal is not a crystal in the strict sense. It's a hydrated silica, a mineraloid that holds water inside its structure, and it's softer than quartz at roughly 5.5 to 6.5 on the Mohs scale. Libras born in the last week of September also inherit sapphire, September's stone. Opal is the one you'll see named again and again for the sign.

Rose Quartz
Rose quartz is the pink face of quartz and the stone most associated with Venus themes. Its color comes from microscopic mineral fibers threaded through the crystal, and like all quartz it holds a 7 on the Mohs scale. Ours is raw and tumbled from Brazil, Madagascar, and Namibia. Andean Blue Opal
This is the Libra birthstone in its calmer, everyday form. Andean blue opal is a soft blue green common opal from Peru, without the flashing rainbow play of color that precious opal shows. Ametrine
If any stone was made for the sign of the scales, it's ametrine: a single quartz crystal that is part purple amethyst and part golden citrine, the two zones meeting in one stone. It forms naturally when parts of an amethyst crystal are warmed by the earth while others stay cool, and nearly all of it comes from one mine in Bolivia. It's quartz, so a hard 7 on the Mohs scale.
