What crystals are best for Cancer?

Cancer is a water sign ruled by the Moon, the only sign the Moon rules, so moonstone isn't a marketing angle here. It's the whole logic of the collection.

1. Peach moonstone. Soft peach feldspar from Madagascar with a white-blue sheen that moves under the surface as you turn it. The glow is called adularescence, light scattering between thin layers inside the stone.
2. Black moonstone. The smoky gray-black variety, also from Madagascar, with a silvery flash instead of a white one. People pair it with peach as the new moon to peach's full.
3. Carnelian. Orange chalcedony from Madagascar and Brazil, and one of the biggest groups in this collection. A little fire for the most inward water sign.
4. Emerald. Green beryl from Brazil. We stock it as rough matrix pieces, crystal and host rock together, so it reads as a specimen rather than a gem.
5. Blue calcite. Powder blue and faintly translucent, from Madagascar. It looks like sea glass gone soft at the edges.
6. Green aventurine. Quartz with a faint glitter from tiny green mica plates inside it. The gentlest green in the shop.

What is the Cancer birthstone?

Cancer runs from roughly June 21 to July 22, so it takes in two birthstone months.

• July, which covers most of the sign, is ruby.
• June is pearl, moonstone and alexandrite, for the first ten or so days of the season.
• The traditional zodiac stone is moonstone, and since moonstone is also a June stone, it's the one answer that fits every Cancer.

Cancer crystals to avoid

There's no stone a Cancer needs to keep out of the house. What the tradition flags is intensity.

Pairing guides tend to steer Cancer away from the harshest fire stones, reasoning that a Moon-ruled sign does its best work in quiet. That said, carnelian is one of the largest groups in this very collection and our Cancer buyers love it, so treat the warnings as a starting point rather than a fence.

The practical note concerns blue calcite. It sits at 3 on the Mohs scale, needs its own pouch, and should stay dry. Moonstone, at 6 to 6.5, is sturdier but still softer than quartz, so store them separately too.

• Cancer season runs late June through most of July, and birthdays land in the holiday travel weeks, so build in postage time.
• Choose polished or tumbled moonstone over raw. The sheen only shows properly on a smooth surface, and it's the whole point of the stone.
